Quality of life seems difficult to grasp at first, and yet almost everything unconsciously revolves around this point. The quality of life is always subjective and reflects the very individual human condition, but it is also influenced by the interaction between people and their environment. Most of the time, the nature of the living, leisure, school and work environment, social relationships with other people, and many other things are reflected in the mental and physical condition of a person – in satisfaction with their life.
The term quality of life is, which seems surprising, still quite new. In its less than 100-year history, however, it has already found its way into politics, medicine, sociology, economics and many other areas.
There are different opinions about which areas determine the quality of life in detail. Interestingly, our perceived quality of life is influenced not so much by what material or immaterial things we have, but by how close we get to the state of physical, psychological and social well-being that we want.
The definition of quality of life
“Quality of life is a person’s subjective perception of their position in life about the culture and the value systems in which they live and about their goals, expectations, standards and concerns. It is a broad concept that is influenced in many ways by the physical health, psychological well-being, degree of independence, social relationships and relationship to the peculiarities of a person’s environment. “

This means that quality of life is also a central point in the area of transport and its relationship to other areas of our life. It is the yardstick for satisfying our needs. However, since these needs are often linked to certain values, different facets can come to the fore more or less clearly for the individual. Let’s take a closer look at some of these aspects:

In addition to its traffic function, the street space also has other functions. You go for a walk with the dog, meet people and talk to them, do sports, etc. For all users and especially pedestrians, the street space should also be a place to relax.
This can be done by loosening up with design elements and green spaces, but also by designing them with lounge areas, bench seats, etc. Of course, the quality of stay is also enhanced by dynamic elements such as B. the number and speed of passing vehicles determined.
Work and employment
Work and employment are experienced as important meaningful elements of our life. Work not only serves to earn money, but is also an important point of reference for many people for social contacts and increasing education and self-esteem.
Quality of living
The quality of living is not only determined by the size, layout and design of the apartment, but also by the location of the apartment, e.g. B. regarding the possibility of being able to open a window or go for a walk undisturbed by traffic noise or exhaust fumes.
Health is not only understood as the absence of illness, but also as physical and mental well-being in general.
